Forgive others, not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace. - UNKNOWN.
Forgiving others is a process and a journey I am still on. There is always someone that does something that hurts our feelings.
Sometimes those individuals are no longer with us. Nonetheless, forgiveness is important.
Although you may still have to deal with the hurt of what that person did, forgiving them takes an unimaginable heavy weight off of your shoulders. How do I know?
I have done it. I forgave my sexual assaulter, and believe me, that process took years. And it wasn't just me mumbling that I forgive him in a secret closet. It was also me confronting him in person. It was me telling him what he did, how it hurt, and that I forgave him. At the end of that conversation, I hugged him.

However, I felt the peace within after that conversation that set me free. I was no longer bound by unforgiveness in my heart.
I know that some people have experienced worse than, but I do know that forgiveness is possible. If the person that wronged you is still alive, that is the perfect opportunity to let them know that their actions hurt you. There are times when that person may not even know they hurt you, but allow them to own up to what they did.
