If it cost you your peace of mind, you overpaid. - Rigel J. Dawson.
There are so many times, I think to myself, is this even worth it. But a good measurement of is this task worth it will cost me in the midst and at the end.
Is this a good investment of my time, and if it's not, it may be time to move on. So many times, we get caught up in things that may have started off good and just took a turn for the worse.
At this time, we feel obligated to "finish what we started," although it may cost us our mental health.
We, too, often put the task first and not ourselves. We put the completion of the task before ourselves. We even put the people that it benefits before our own mental health. But as Missy Elliott says in her song, "Is it worth it? Is it worth it?".
And I bet you that when we outweigh the task, the benefit, and our mental health, it's probably not.
So the next time a task has taken a turn for the worse, forget about the completion and protect your peace, protect your mental health and take a step back. It may be worth it to step away for a while and then regroup, or beneficially just quit indefinitely.
But remember it's your choice to make, and don't let anyone convince you to risk your peace or mental stability for the team.
