You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody. -Maya Angelou
As a child, I did things not for myself, but to make my parents proud, to prove to them that I was worthy. But worthy of what? Did I feel as though I had to prove my worth to them? Did I not feel loved just by being myself?
I think we are groomed and groom or children into thinking particular actions make us proud of them. What's something you hear a parent say, before a big game, or so they can win, it's "Make me proud!" So are we conditioning our children to think they are not enough, they have to do something more than being themselves to be good enough?
This mindset, moves from childhood to adulthood, even as a Mom, we want to prove that we have it all together. And this need to prove has placed so much pressure on us to be perfect. Some of us adults are still proving to our parents our worth to this day.
So the next time you feel the need to prove yourself to anyone, look yourself in the mirror and say this loud, " I AM ENOUGH!"
Until Next Time Mom Tribe!
